Nurse Anne Rowe faces challenges in her love life and her ward duties in a 1960s hospital.

Anne wasn’t expecting to find love again after her broken engagement. But then she meets young architect Nick Dexter, and his charm is hard to resist.

When the Maternity Unit Annexe closes, Anne moves to St Barny’s Observation Unit. She can’t help becoming involved in the lives of her patients. Their tragic stories touch her heart, and she grows particularly close to one dangerously ill patient and his family.

Anne isn’t impressed when Dr Robert Gordon, her ex-fiancé ‘s friend, starts a post at the hospital. The pair have never got along and his arrival leads to tension between them.
